Q: What is the floor made out of?

Our standard shielded floor is made from our high attenuation fabric between two layers of heavy-duty vinyl tarp.

Q: Do you make custom sizes?

We can work with any custom spec/dimension to provide a solution to meet your unique project requirements.

Q: Are these difficult to assemble and disassemble?

A benefit of shielding with fabric enclosures is that they can be put together and taken down quickly and easily. Each enclosure comes with a packet of detailed assembly and care instructions. Some sizes of our inflatable enclosures can be set up in minutes with only one person.  Larger enclosures can be set up by one or two people in under 30 mins. You can choose to have large semi-permanent enclosures installed at your site by SFI’s installation team.

Q: Are they heavy?

One of the main benefits of our product is its lightweight nature. Tabletop Enclosures with their frame range from approximately 10 to 30 lbs. Walk-in tents can weigh as little as 40 lbs. We offer a variety of carry bags, roller bags, and cases to allow for easy transport.

Q: Is a ventilation system required?

The shielding fabrics are extremely tightly woven and plated with metal, offering almost no breathability. When people, devices or machines are inside and the door is sealed closed, the space heats up quickly. In order to manage heat levels and air quality, a ventilation system is required when people will be working inside the tent.

Q: Can you make other types of shielded products not listed under “products”?

Yes. Not only can we manufacture enclosures and curtains to custom specs we can fabricate other unique shielded products with our fabric. Simply provide the specs/a drawing and we’ll do the rest.

Q: Are the enclosures tested by you or a third party?

Every completed RF Shielded Enclosure/Tent, including all the penetrations, undergo quality testing prior to being shipped to the customer. We perform all tests at our production facility in Upstate New York.

Our engineers select test frequencies across various ISM bands, such as 915 MHz, 2.45 GHz, and up to 18 GHz, as we measure open values, noise floors, and perform thorough test measurements. We repeat this process, moving the antennas to test each wall and penetration area inside and outside of the tent, ensuring accuracy and reliability.

Unlike other RF Shielded Tents that typically will shield at 50-60 dB, our RF Shielded Enclosures/Tents provide RF shielding attenuating at 85-100 dB. The ability to test the finished Shielded Enclosure in house to the IEEE-299 testing standard holds us accountable, allows us to innovate future performance and, most importantly, offers customers quality and consistency every time an order is placed with us.

Q: Can I clean a tent?

Yes- Spot cleaning can be done when necessary to prevent damage to the fabric and maintain shielding effectiveness.

  • Never put liquid directly onto the tent.
  • Use only water and a damp cloth that does not pill while gently wiping the walls and floor.
  • Tent should be completely and thoroughly dry before folding.

Each enclosure is shipped with detailed cleaning instructions.

Q: What protection is offered for the I/O plate and ventilation areas on the tent?

We include covers for the I/O plate and vents in the tents we ship. These covers attach to the bottom of the I/O plates and vents, with an extra piece of fabric that goes inside the tent. Both the inside and outside covers have magnets stitched into their respective corners, making them easy to align and snap into place.

These covers are quick and easy to put on while also protecting the tent fabric and penetration areas from damage and puncturing during setup and breakdown.

Q: Troubleshooting

If the tent is not shielding properly, we recommend double checking the following areas:

  • Ensure the door is completely sealed and all strips of magnets are aligned. Ripples or gaps in the magnet alignment can affect shielding performance.
  • Ensure the I/O plate is installed properly, and the screws are hand tightened fully.
  • Grounding the tent as well as plugging in the ventilation system can also oftentimes improve shielding performance.
Q: What are the lead times from point of purchase to delivery?

Typical lead times for a standard sized RF Shielded Enclosure can range from 4-8 weeks. Larger sizes with added engineering may lengthen this window. With over 99% on-time deliveries, we ensure that the customers’ delivery time expectations are met. Please make sure to let us know if you have any deadlines and our team is always happy to accommodate.

Q: What is the fabric used on the enclosures?

All enclosures are made in the USA with Nova Select™ fabric. Nova Select™ is a silver/copper/nickel conductive fabric with an average shielding effectiveness of over -95 dB in the range of 20 MHz to 40 GHz. The fabric is RoHS compliant, offers high attenuation, is flexible and durable. Berry compliant options are also available.

Q: How large can you manufacture a tent?

We can manufacture any custom sized RF Shielded Enclosure our customers require. We have standard sizes that are the most often purchased, but are able to produce any size or shape required. If you are asking yourself “is my design too large?”, we have manufactured 10,000 sq foot cyber security labs and spaces large/high enough to test fix winged aircraft.
